Sailing Photo of the Week - On the Sea, or In it?

Puma Yacht in the Volvo Ocean Race

Volvo Ocean Race - Hard not to get your Pumas wet on this ride!  The cockpit is definitely awash as the yacht Puma is making its way along the Volvo Ocean Race.  The Volvo 70 class is not exactly a dry boat, as one can see here.  Notice that the patch of blue sky makes it all seem tolerable.  Yet that same scene under dark skies would look terrifying.  A little bit of sunshine seems to make all the difference.

Puma was one of the boats to sustain damage in this leg, along with Green Dragon and Telefonica Blue.  Though the leaders can be expected to make the leg 2 finish over the weekend, the yachts are approaching Cochin under dying winds, which may stretch things out for several more days. “An anti-climax, that’s what this is. We have been racing hard in strong winds and rough seas for over a week, and now there is a re-start again,” noted Gustav Morin of Ericsson 3.
