Thomas Coville sets out to Conquer the World on Sodeb'O
19 Nov Eastern Atlantic - The maxi trimarans Sodeb'O and IDEC appear to be playing leapfrog across the high seas, and in the record books. Mere weeks after Francis Joyon took the sailing record for the Discovery Route from Coville and Sodeb'O, and Coville has set out to take the 'round the world record from Joyon. Casting off from Brest yesterday just before 1400 GMT, Sodeb'O is currently ahead of IDEC's reference tim |
Algimouss Spirit of Canada back in the Vendée Globe - Derek Hatfield
Posted November 16th, 2008 by Derek HatfieldHello from Algimouss Spirit of Canada - What can I say about the first few days, wow what a beginning to a round the world race. Start day was fantastic with the big crowds and great send off. It is the most emotional thing I have experiencced in a sailing event, thousands of people cheering you on from the shoreline. I must admit to being nervous on the start line with 30 IMOCA 60’s racing around chomping at the bit to be off. We knew the conditions would be lively the first few days and they lived up to the expections and then some. |
Vendee Globe 2008-2009 Start with Sir Robin Knox-Johnston
09 Nov Les Sables d'Olone, France - Around Alone: Two words that every sailor understands to be the ultimate challenge. To circumnavigate solo is so difficult that more people have traveled in outer space than have sailed non-stop around the world singlehanded, and far more have climbed Everest. There is no greater test of a person and a boat, and those 30 sailors that set out today on the Vendée Globe race will be racing against themselves as much as each other. As nearly every one of them we spoke to has said, they'll be l |
D-Day for the Vendée Globe - Ellen MacArthur
Posted November 9th, 2008 by Ellen MacArthurHere I am in Sables d’Olonne. I was here four years ago and at that time I was on standby for my round the world record attempt and four years before that I was here to actually take part in the race and that was an incredible experience in my life… To do that at just 24 and see thousands and thousands of people here to see you off was just amazing. To come back after both those experiences almost as an observer is extraordinary - just to see the skippers and talk to them and know exactly what they are going to go out there and do is quite incredible. |
