Clipper Round the World Yacht Race

Sacramento, USA - Arnold Schwarzenegger seems to have a taste for salt water.  It looks like the upcoming Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race will include a yacht named for the Golden State, and this week California's "Governator" made a statement in regard to the race, the boat, and his quest for cyborg victory of the seas:  "California will be the best boat out there," he said, in a hauntingly metallic voice.

The sailing crews of the 07-08 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race arrived back in Liverpool on Saturday, marking the end of their 35,000-mile circumnavigation. These amateur sailors (each boat having a professional skipper) battled it out around the world, sailing through calms and gales - enjoying all the pleasures, pains, mechanical breakdowns, and various character building experiences of a circumnavigation under sail.

Irish Sea, UK - The sailing fleet from the 07-08 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is now on the final stretch, and expected to land in Liverpool Saturday the 5th of July. This 14th leg of the 35,000 mile race is a short sprint from Cork, Ireland to Liverpool, UK, and will give the sailing teams the chance for one last competition before closing the loop on their circumnavigation.

Halifax, Canada - Light air and fog from New York to Nova Scotia resulted in Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race officials judging this leg - Race 12 - by distance to the finish, and calling the fleet in. westernaustralia2011.com took it's first yellow pennant as the winner, Glasgow: Scotland with style landed second place, and Qingdao rounded out the podium.

“First place, I can now die a happy woman!” joked Judy Lawrence of South Melbourne.

The Clipper Race yacht Uniquely Singapore has managed to steal line honours from Nova Scotia by crossing the finish line at 05:16 local (12:16 GMT) Wednesday morning at the end of Race 8 from Hawaii to Santa Cruz of the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race.

Clipper Race, Hawaii to California - The tactical move north by the yachts Nova Scotia and Uniquely Singapore has allowed them to carve out a significant lead that will be hard to breakdown. With the fleet expected to arrive early into Santa Cruz, possibly on Thursday, it does not leave much time for the chasing teams to make up the lost miles.
