Paprec-Virbac Yacht - Where she comes from

The decision to build a new Open 60' was taken in May 2005, just after the 2004-05 Vendée Globe. Since then the Design Group, Jean-Pierre, Luc Bartissol, Loïck Peyron and Nicolas Abiven, has worked in closed cooperation with both the designers and the builders. Paprec Virbac was designed by Farr Yacht Design and built by Southern Ocean Marine, NZ.

Ecover III Background:
The objective was to design and build the winning boat for the Vendee Globe 2008. The team have spent a lot of time reviewing all aspects of the design to make a more efficient race boat but without forfeiting toughness.

The extensive R&D programme included 1/7th and 1/3th scale models and a computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for all the foils.  OCD carried out a complete, computer modelled review of the rig and sail design working with Southern Spars and North Sails.

I have dreamed of participating in the Vendée Globe for many years and have been building towards November 9 for the last four years. We managed to qualify by completing The Artemis Transat in May this year, but have struggled to find sufficient sponsorship. We arrived in Les Sables D’Olonne in October, unsure as to whether we could even keep hold of my family’s home, let alone sail alone around the world. With
