Weatherfax - Make Your Own
03 Jan First off, there is no tin can involved. I started calling it “tin-can” because it was so simple it reminded me of two tin-cans on a string, but you will need neither the cans nor the string. What you will need are a computer, a piece of software (free to try), a shortwave radio with SSB, and a cable to connect the radio to the computer. |
Navigation - Celestial
Posted January 3rd, 2008 by KimCelestial navigation Celestial navigation has often been used by sailors to navigate across the oceans of the world. It is used to determine your location by referencing the sun, moon, planets and stars. This type of marine navigation requires a sextant (a precision navigation instrument used to determine angles), a nautical almanac, a set of sight reduction tables, a chronometer (or watch), and a radio signal used to determine accurate time. |
