Roxy Jam - Sam Davies

Our adventures in the Pays Basque were VERY tiring, but LOTS of fun!
We set off three weeks ago, in a nice Bay of Biscay storm - Westerly wind 30-45 knots! That was another good training session, as we screamed down towards Biarritz at speeds of over 20 knots! 14 hours after leaving Lorient, we swapped our ski-masks and drysuits for shorts and T-shirt as the wind dropped off and the sun came out.
The Roxy Jam is a festival, that is held around the womens longboarding world championships. There are super art exhibitions, live music (including The Do and Operator Please amongst others).
We spent the week "showing off" in front of the beach, sailing up and down and sharing a taste for Open 60 sailing with as many people as possible. It is great to take so many enthusiastic people sailing and teach them about how I race single-handed (a lot of people don't believe I do it!!) We were proud to see how everyone loved our ROXY! I think there are a few more members of my fan club now!
Although we were very popular choice of activity, we managed to get half a day off, to do a surf lesson with local Roxy longboarder Helene Chabeaud - and we all managed to do a few stunts on the big learner boards! Great fun! I want to do MORE! Thanks Helene.

Another highlight was when some of the Roxy surf team came to visit our boat! It was fun to meet some of the worlds best longboarders from all over the world and share our stories. And an opportunity to play for the photos! THANKS to Aquashot / Roxy for these great shots!
At the end of 2 weeks, it was time to head home, upwind this time!
We have craned Roxy out of the water for a well-deserved "rest"! Whilst she's resting, the boys will be checking everything and putting new antifoutling on her bottom so that at the beginning of September we are ready for the Vendee Globe.

This is perhaps the only vessel I would not mind being run down by.
