Roz Savage Rowing Across the Pacific Ocean

Honolulu, US - In spite of the adversity, or should we say adversities, Roz Savage has rowed the Eastern Pacific from San Francisco to Hawaii. 99 days, 2900 miles, and many, many pulls on the oars after leaving the Golden Gate, Roz crossed her chosen line at around 0900 local time yesterday. While this row is an amazing achievement, Roz is only part way to her goal. This is just the first leg of her much longer trip to Australia, which she will continue next year.

Roz Savage rowing to HawaiiWeather, counter-currents, contrary winds, a failed watermaker and more stood in the way of Roz's attempt, and any one would have been an acceptable reason for quitting, but that just wasn't going to happen. In fact, friends and fans of Roz's contacted YachtPals several weeks ago when Roz's watermaker failed, to see if we could help. We thought we probably could, and relayed a message to her shore team. Roz's response: "Thanks, but no thanks." The tough-as-nails Brit was doing it herself.

In fact, Roz stayed on minimal water rations (and we mean MINIMAL) until a serendipitous meeting with Marcus Eriksen and Joel Paschal on JUNK only days ago. JUNK was out of food, and had a watermaker to spare. Thus, these two tiny specks in a great big ocean got together for a couple of hours, fished, ate, talked, took photos, and in the tradition of mariners since the first boat left the first shore thousands of years ago, helped each other.

Congratulations to Roz Savage for conquering the Eastern Pacific. The focus of her voyage is, like JUNK, to bring attention to the problem of plastics in the world's oceans. Well, Roz, you've gotten everyone's attention - Thank You!
