Welcome to the Rawson Owners Association, a group for owners of the Garden designed Rawson sailboat built by Ron Rawson.  Most owners have the Rawson 30 sailboat, sloop or cutter rigged, some with pilot houses.  This boat is known for its strength, and many have been circumnavigating in Rawsons for decades.

water btwn ballast and hull?

velella's picture

We hauled out recently and discovered water between the ballast and hull when we removed the bolts for the rudder strap.  It appears this has lead to some delamination on the inner layers of roven that are close to the ballast.  We pounded around with the hammer to find these dead spots.  We have drilled some test holes and are trying to dry it out.  Any advice would be great.  We are also currently taking off the gel coat which was not in great shape.   We discovered that on both sides of the boat about 2 feet up there is a bonding strip inside the hull.  About every 8 inches from

New Rawson going from La Paz to San Carlos-Questions advice for Newbie

dampman's picture

It must be the season for people to buy Rawson's in La Paz as I just read Kevin's posts about sailing his new Rawson to Puerto Vallarta. I have also purchased a used Rawson in La Paz that I am repowering.Wistful is a beautiful well outfitted 1981 cutter. Unfortunately I didnt go for a new Yanmar like Kevin but instead elected to get a rebuilt Volvo MD11 to match the blown motor my boat came with. I flew down for two weeks with an installer and delivery crew lined up but unfortnately my "new rebuilt" wasnt running.

From La Paz to Puerto Vallarta

Kevin's picture

Hi,

I just bought a Rawson 30 in La Paz, the first sailboat I've owned since 1985. I need to sail her from La Paz to Puerto Vallarta. We will be leaving the first week of May. In addition to myself, I have 3 inexperienced crew and one good life long sailor to make the trip.

My question is: What kind of winds and seas can I expect from La Paz to Mazatlan? And then onward to Puerto Vallarta? Right now the winds seem to be primarily out of the south and south by southwest.

Thanks,

Kevin
