Sailing at the Olympics - 49er Race Results

Qingdao, China - The Olympic sailors were telling us that the conditions at Qingdao were going to be challenging, and every one of them was looking forward to testing their skills. After today's racing, the proof that they were right is in the results. The fluky winds and currents have combined as predicted: which is to say that they're unpredictable. A puff of air, a sideways current, and suddenly the race completely changes. With its quick acceleration and nimble ways, the peculiarity of the Qingdao Olympic sailing conditions are perhaps most evident on the 49er, where the slightest difference in wind, current and tactics can stretch into boat lengths in a few seconds.
Finishing fourth, third and fifth in the first three races respectively, it's consistency that has Brits Stephen Morrison and Ben Rhodes in the lead after the first day's racing. The Sibello Brothers of Italy are second with a 3,9,1 finish spread, and Denmark's Jonas Warrer and Martin Kirketerp Ibsen are in 3rd overall with second, fourth and tenth place finishes. So of the three leaders, only Italy has actually won a race thus far. The winner of race one, Spain, now sits in eighth after finishing 10th and 17th in the next two races, and Australia's penalty in the first race left them in fifth position overall, despite winning race two and taking 7th in the third race.

Stevie Morrison of GBR commented on the day's lead: "This was only the first day. We have a long series ahead of us so we can't get too cocky, but obviously we had a good day. Let's put it this way – we’ll certainly sleep better tonight than we might otherwise have done." Racing continues tomorrow, and with 13 races to go, the 49er class is definitely a long way from the podium.

Olympic Sailing - 49er Update
Rest day at the Olympics for the 49ers today.
Sailing of the 49er class boats resumes on Wednesday.
49er Class - Olympic Sailing Update and Results
Tim Wadlow and Chris Rast of the US Olympic sailing team finished first in all three 49er races today! Rast is competing in his third Olympics and ranked today as his "best ever".
The US sailors entered the day in 13th overall, and these wins bring the team up to number 5 in the standings in the 19 boat fleet. "It feels great to get back on track,” said Rast.
After a very tough start at the Olympics, the 49er team took time during yesterday's day off to speak with mentors like Star coach Hans Wallen and Rules Advisor Dave Perry. Wadlow said: “We needed a day to chill out, reflect and come back with a new attitude. Now we’re just going to take every race as it comes and give it our best shot.”

49er Class Sailing at the Olympics - Top Ten to Medal Races
Three 49er class Olympic races were held off the coast of Qingdao today. These boats are much better equipped for the light wind conditions at this year's Olympics.
Denmark holds the lead going into the 49er medal race, with Italy and Australia close behind.
Tim Wadlow and Chris Rast of the US sailing team managed a third place in the first 49er class race of the day - their results were 3rd, 8th, and 4th for the day, putting them in sixth place overall, and qualifying them for tomorrow’s 49er medal race.
The Olympic 49 class fleet has only completed 12 races of the planned 15, but will proceed with the medal race as they have met their Olympic race requirements.
The top ten boats in the 49er fleet are all close in points heading into tomorrow’s double-points Olympic medal race, especially third, fourth and fifth, who are only one point apart. Should be exciting to watch these high performance boats in action on Sunday.

49er Olympics comment, the final result
i really hope that denmark would win after there boat break on the way out to the start before the medal race denmark was in the lead by 11 points they started 3,57 after all the others in the croatia boat that they have borrowed thay came in 7 out of the 10 boats and won overall but some of the teams protest against the danish team and that the weather was not sutibel for sailling. the ref have not decide anything on the medal race day but they will do later today. i just hope denmark wins cause they was the best team overall even tough they started 3,57 minuts after they others in the last race just to bad that they might do to technuallitis and poor sportmans ship of the teams who didt win ( bad loosers)
