Shall we play a game?

I'd like to propose a worldwide game of hide and seek. A treasure hunt.

Geocaching is a somewhat popular “sport” that's been around a few years. Someone hides something, posts the gps coordinates and/or clues to the location, and someone else finds it (usually signing an enclosed logbook, and leaving their own “treasure”). Geocaching, however, is mostly inland. What I propose is more of a water-based endeavor.

Sure, we'd still hide the stuff on land (usually... you know, bring a snorkel), but we'd do so in places accessible by water, and in a way that cruisers enjoy. Because, let's face it, we're different. I can imagine things like: “Enter the establishment at these coordinates and tip the one-eyed bartender one Canadian nickel. Then continually order virgin strawberry daiquiris for all male members of your crew and boilermakers for all female members until you receive further instructions.” Or how about ...”row to shore between the 'legs of Venus,' you will need a sextant, a shower cap, and a small potato...”?

It sounds like fun to me, and I think we could start it fairly simply as a new group with a forum (and then maybe build a database as it becomes popular). So please, everybody, let me know if you're interested. We can just hide something near where we are now (most of us are near navigable water), post the clues, and the game's afoot (aboat?)!

If you have any experience with geocaching (or an interest) and can help out or even take over this project, please let me know. Volunteers have a lot of pull around here.

First treasure... Give it a go!

Okay, I'll be glad to open. You will find my treasure at the location:

N35.53.656      E10.35.898

If you spot the name "Salvagny" you have found the right spot and can go on and cash in the win: Free drinks on the aft deck. Remember to write your name in the guest book to document that you have found the cache

If the boat is closed off then look for the name "Celtic Dream" a few boat further down the pontoon. Bring my greetings to Roger and Pauline Morgan and I am sure you can cash in the drink there.

Good hunt!
