Marine Diesels - how to guide

Forum Topic

Here is a website with all kinds of marine diesel information:

www.boatdiesel.com

You can scan the topics for free but have to join (pay) to get full access, but I think it's worth it. I used their help to determine if my head gasket was really blown (yes) and if there was some possible alternative way to avoid the inevitable (there wasn't).

I just wish I had gone ahead and done all the work myself instead of hiring some local "marine diesel mechanic" to do most of the work - could have saved a bundle. Oh well..... easy come easy go!

I thought I was going to learn all about Marine Diesels, and all you give me is a damned link?Yell

Nice link, actually. Totally agree about the DIY, at least then you know what mistakes were made during the process!

Diesel experts

The yanmar group at yahoo also has a couple great mechanics who know about my Yanmar.

This reminds me: Why don't we invite some "experts" on to the site and make a "ask the experts" area. We could have a rigger, a mechanic, a marine electronic person etc. What do you think?

Great idea!!! I'll step up as expert on splicing the mainbrace...

No seriously, also how about listing reference books or articles for specific issues, or even web pages with helpful hints?

HOW-TO Guide

OK I'll get on that Experts thing.

>how about listing reference books or articles for specific issues

Yeah, sounds like a good idea to me. I started a HOW-TO Guide (http://yachtpals.com/node/351), and now we can add pages to that guide for engines, heads or whatever, and list reference books or links on or outside yachtpals.

We'll move things around as it grows, sounds like fun.

ALSO: Started a Diesel engine area for the HOW-TO guide (http://yachtpals.com/node/358), edit the page to add more links.
