Caribbean 1500 - Blog
Now that the cruising season on the Great Lakes is over, it's time to head south. I'm leaving later today to help deliver Joy For All from Connecticut to Hampton,VA for the start of the Caribbean 1500. It looks like a late Monday or early Tuesday departure, following the passage of a strong cold front which will give us NW wind for our offshore run. I have a SPOT messenger which will be tracking my position by GPS satellite. Click on the link to see where I am.
You can also follow the boat (and the rest of the fleet) at http://www.carib1500.com once we leave Hampton on November 2. Our projected arrival date in the BVI is November 11.
Just follow this link to see my location updates:

This will be my fourth Caribbean 1500, and my second passage on Joy For All as I was a member of the winning crew during the 2008 Atlantic Cup from Tortola to Bermuda. The Farr 50 is a fast, comfortable boat, with furling main and genoa. We will have a crew of four aboard, each taking two three-hour watches. Six hours of watch each day means the potential to get a lot of rest if everything is going smoothly. Of course, if things are not going well, you can easily become sleep deprived, which is what happened during my first Caribbean 1500 in 2005. But then, that's another blog entry!
