On problem sharing
I’ve been having problems with my boats engine for quite some time now. Unfortunately I’m not that good with engines but I am learning (the hard way). Now, don’t please ask what the original problem was ‘cause I’ve been messing with it for so long I’ve forgotten.
Unfortunately I’m one of those males who will wander the supermarket aisles for hours looking for something rather than ask for assistance. I try to kid my self that I’m being independent or self sufficient or some such rubbish.
Anyway yesterday I was sat in ‘Mignonne’s’ cockpit thinking that years ago, before we all became so environmentally aware, I could of just chucked ‘Gerty’ that’s the engine, overboard. Then Paul, who has a boat moored near by paddled over for a chat.
‘What’s the problem?‘ he asked.
So I tried to explain the latest one.
‘Ah’ he said ‘I had that problem once, have you tried ....’
‘Ah no never thought of that.’ I had to admit.
Five minutes later, problem solved.
The moral is, don’t be afraid to ask for advice. Of course you have to have faith in the person you are asking. Sometimes it is difficult to differentiate between the ‘know it all’ and the person who really does know.
Now, all I have to do is put everything back the way it was before I stated. And find a home for those nuts, bolts and other bits that are left over.
