Jones Island State Park Summary

Jones Island is a great little state park in the San Juan Islands of Washington state accessible only by boat. It is easily reachable from Anacortes, Friday harbor, Lopez, and the other SJ islands within a few hours, and is wonderfully natural spot to spend a few days. There is great hiking, lots of very tame deer and other wildlife to see, and the views from the cliffs are outstanding. You might even see an Orca or two coming around the corner from Roche harbor.

Anchorage Notes

  • North Anchorage: Most boats use the anchorage on the north side of the island. There are a bunch of mooring balls and a dock (no dock in winter). You can also anchor there (generally requires 2 anchors to reduce swing). Can get very crowded during summer.
  • South anchorage: There are also some mooring balls on the south side of the island, and on occasion conditions permit a reasonable comfortable stay there (though the wakes can be miserable).
