Nile Crocodiles and "Nile" Class Boats

The Nile Crocodiles are a sailing group in Cairo, we sail and race "Nile" class boats. The Nile is a wooden dinghy with a centerboard and a main sail and jib, the boat has no spinnaker but it has a whisker for the jib. There are about 12 remaining Nile boats in good sailing condition in Egypt, so we are an "endangered species" like the Nile crocodile :-). We are trying to revive interest in this great boat that is both a family and a racing boat and can be sailed by people of all ages...I started sailing it when I was 13 then moved on to more demanding classes (Finn, 470, Lazer) then, now at 53, I am back sailing it and racing it...and having fun...

Nile Boat Specifications:
Length: 5.0 m (16.4 ft)
Weight: 470 kg (1,036 pounds)
Sail Area (Main sail + Jib): 16 sq.m (172 sq. ft)
Boat Construction material: Wood
Crew: 2 (racing), up to 4 (cruising)
Price (in Egypt) Aprox. $5,000 (with sails & fittings)

Nile Pictures & Florida Gators
I am not still good at this, but I will try to post a picture, as soon as I can figure the "ropes" on this blog :-) Florida Gators are definitly welcome...be careful however because the Egyptian crocodiles are VERY STRONG ;-) If you have a facebook account also visit the Nile Crocodiles group, where we managed to post photographs and a small video of one of the races.
