Fleet Week Airshow on the Bay

It was a crazy day on the bay last Sunday, as a huge crowd of boats gathered for the 2007 Air Show. I saw more powerboats than I have ever seen at one time on the bay; guess all that gas consumption thrills those types.
We got to the San Francisco city front at around 1pm, just in time for the biplane show (by far my favorite part). There was also a helicopter show, and they sure did looked formidable in formation flying by the Rock (Alcatraz).
The Blue Angels performance came next. It was incredibly impressive and incredibly loud. In case you didn't know, the Blue Angels are the U.S. Naval Flight Demonstration Squadron (USNFDS), they perform a mix of formation flying and solo routines using F/A-18 Hornets. The pilots performed about 30 maneuvers during the aerial demonstration, which lasted for around an hour.
Our friend Rick's Sea Ray screamed us all back home, although the detour to Angel Island meant we took the chop on the beam for that part of the trip, getting us all soaking wet! No worries, a few beers back at the docks and all was well. A nice end to a beautiful day on the bay.
