Big Brest - Sailing Photo of the Week

Brest, France - Over 2000 boats have taken part in the Brest '08 maritime festival on the coast of Brittany, including Sobed'O, which popped by after setting the new transatlantic record. From Classic ships, to home-made sailboats, to maxi yachts, the festival had someone representing just about every boat imaginable. With a focus on mulitinational maritime culture, and a draw from not only Europe and the UK, but the whole world, Brest may be the ultimate festival for those whose first nation is the sea.
As the great Bernard Moitessier put it: "I am a citizen of the most beautiful nation on earth. A nation whose laws are harsh yet simple, a nation that never cheats, which is immense and without borders, where life is lived in the present. In this limitless nation, this nation of wind, light, and peace, there is no other ruler besides the sea."
