wave powered boatMiles Anderson of the Hawaii Yacht Club has just reported that Ken-ichi Horie has cleared Ala Wai Channel on his wave powered boat! He will now travel all the way to Japan, on the first ever wave-powered Pacific crossing. Ken-ichi says the journey will take him about two and a half months on the Suntory Mermaid 2.

We wish him the best of luck as he takes this historic passage towards his home waters of Japan.

We'll keep you updated on his progress here at YachtPals.com

I've progressed 100 km from when I departed, making my current position somewhere between Oahu and Kauai. I'm not yet settled in so it's a little uncomfortable. I'll probably get over it soon.
I was a little seasick, so I'm not very hungry. I haven't yet cooked for myself, just put on the coffee.
I did eat the onigiri (rice balls) I received at departure though.

I envy how good you look for your age....the ocean must hold a secret. What an interesting practical application. Do you feel that the technology would lessen power needed other maritime uses? Mark Oahu, Hawaii
