Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta - News and Videos

ANTIGUA - Despite the lack of cooperation from the wind on Monday – which resulted in one abandoned race out of four – the Antigua portion of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge was a smashing success this season. The famed 1936 Vintage Class 72ft ketch Ticonderoga and her Captain Tom Reardon, who is celebrating his 22nd year as skipper, were the very deserved winners of both Vintage Class A and the overall regatta – and will be taking home the Panerai Luminor Chronograph Regatta timepiece. The other winners of their respective classes were: Eleonora, Juno, Lone Fox, Alice of Penrhyn, Calypso, Winsome, Velsheda, Wild Horses, Jambalaya and Altair.
The final day of the regatta was reserved for the Classic Single Handed Race, which was more impressive than ever on Tuesday morning, with 40% of the 71-boat fleet participating. At 67ft, Galatea, helmed by owner Judd Tinius, impressively took first place.
A breezy evening under a nearly full moon in Nelson’s Dockyard, made a lovely backdrop for Tuesday’s Prize-giving. The evening began with a video presentation of the rebuild of Officine Panerai’s 1936 Fife Eilean, which is currently underway in Viareggio. The Classic yachting community was very pleased to see that the stunning boat is on her way back into the Regatta scene.
According to the race organisers, this years Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta was fantastic; the size of the fleet as well as the enthusiasm for the event, truly continues growing year after year.
