Captains License-OUPV/ Masters - Blog

Sewage spill in San Francisco Bay
Posted February 4th, 2008 by KimSan Francisco Bay, California - 2.7 million gallons (10.2 million liters) of partially treated sewage spilled into Richardson Bay (an arm of the San Francisco Bay) in Marin county on Thursday evening, when a pump at the waste treatment facility failed. "We are testing the waters near the accident site to determine if there are any public health issues," said Janell Myhre, emergency services coordinator for Marin County. Authorities are advising against direct contact with the San Francisco Bay waters until contamination results are available. |
Insurance
Posted December 10th, 2007 by Dolce VitaI plan to begin my voyage in March, 2008 and as such have begun to investigate insurance that would cover me and the boat. Quotes that I have received so far are around $2,800 for a boat valued around $70,000. If you do the math, you would have to agree with me that this sucks. As such I am considering going without insurance.
Report from Cabo San Lucas
Posted November 20th, 2007 by mrulliI went to Cabo last week to meet the HaHa fleet and just relax awhile. The good news is that Cabo is still a great party place, the bad news it's getting more expensive. |
We're in Bahia San Quentin, Mexico
Posted November 18th, 2007 by phoebeWe're in Bahia San Quentin, we're anchored in like 12 feet of water. We just had a whale use our bow roller, chain, keel, and stern anchor rode to scrape barnacles off himself, as well as the side of the boat! For the last 1/2 hour to hour! Got some great pictures... We're all fine and well. This is our third stop... We did Puerto Santo Tomas, Bahia Colonet, and now we're in Bahia San Quentin. |
Story - Oil Spill on SF Bay
12 Nov A container ship hit the bay bridge at 8:30 am on November 8th, spilling oil into the San Francisco bay. The bridge itself was not damaged, although there was extensive damage done to the protective fender system. There is an ongoing investigation regarding who is to blame for the spill, which many are considering an environmental catastrophe. Gov. Arnold Scwarzeneger declared a state of emergency on Friday, and most beaches are closed. Angel island is closed (scheduled to reopen Monday), as are several marinas, including Berkeley Marina. |
Cruising in Mexico - Blog
Posted November 10th, 2007 by phoebeSorry for not updating you all sooner but we are on cruising time. At our last note we had just arrived at Catalina Island through smoke and a bit of wind. |
Paxil in Catalina
Posted October 24th, 2007 by phoebeWe are in Catalina now came in on Monday night, we came across the channel in winds as high as 51knots, and the boat held up well. No sea sickness at all. We were standing on the rails for sometime. Saw Dolphins swimming through it like it was nothing at all. We are anchor in Catalina Harbor which is on West side of the island due to winds and smoke. |
Tips for Santa Barbara
Posted October 19th, 2007 by phoebeOk so we are at the marina, sixty cents per foot per day, the marina has a on line service but it is poor at best. But you can get free Internet at the library and the best part is the bus is only 25 cents each way. Just take a short walk to the pier and jump the bus up town. The bus is all electric and has no glass in the windows. |
Paxil Adventures - Week 2
